Tricolours Racing specialises in offering affordable options in racehorse ownership through racehorse syndication. Racehorse syndication is a great way to buy a racehorse, at a fraction of the cost. Owners purchase a share in the horse (shares start at 2.5%), and from there all the costs are split evenly between the owners pro-rata per share held.
Each year, a selection of high-quality yearlings are individually hand-picked by James and his support / advisory team. Months of work and research goes into our selection process and our focus is ALWAYS on quality, not quantity. We have partnered with some of Australia’s best trainers, all of whom are involved in the yearling selection process.
On average, a horse trained by a Group 1 winning city trainer will cost roughly $60,000 per year. So on average, a 2.5% shareholder should budget for roughly $125 per month.
When the horse is in full work, the bills will be higher than when the horse is spelling in the paddock. But over the course of the year, the bills should average out to roughly $125 per month for 2.5%. These costs can vary from horse to horse and trainer to trainer. Trainers fees and approximate costs for each individual horse will be clearly outlined in the PDS for each horse sold.
Your share price includes all cost incurred in the syndication process for a period of time going forward which is usually somewhere between 2-6 months (each horse is different, and all costs are clearly outlined in the PDS).
This includes, but is not limited to, the purchase of the horse, sale day costs, floating, agistment, transport, pre training, breaking in, training, vet bills, bloodstock bills, race nominations, bonus race series nominations, registration fees, insurance and much more. Plus GST on all costs.
All costs are clearly stated and tallied in the PDS, which is different for each individual horse
Management fees are $50 per month (including GST) for shares 5% or higher, and $40 per month (incl GST) for shares smaller than 5%. Unlike some other syndicators, Tricolours pays all our suppliers directly. So you don’t need to worry about getting multiple small bills per month from multiple suppliers.
Tricolours settles all bills directly and manages the entire process. All you receive is one clearly itemised statement per month. It takes all the hassle out of ownership. On top of this, you will be constantly updated on your horse’s progress. You will always know where your horse is, and how it is progressing.
When your horse is spelling, we make regular visits and will send photos, videos and updates. When your horse is in full work, you will receive regular communications, at a minimum once a week.
Additionally, we have regular social events for all owners.
Every owner is treated as an individual. We provide several payment options. The simplest way is to get set up on our direct debit facility, which takes payments on the 15th of each month. However, some owners like to pay in lump sums in advance.
Tricolours will send you a monthly account and you will always know exactly where your money is going and what you owe. Remember, we plan to make ownership as stress free as possible.
Racing NSW allows 20 owners in the race book, so every share of 5% or larger will come with full race day privileges. This includes racetrack entry, members area entry and mounting yard entry.
At Tricolours, we are all about the ultimate race day experience. You will be able to meet the jockey, chat with the trainer, and have celebratory drinks after the race, regardless of the result. Tricolours will also plan race day events for owners so everyone can get together, network, socialize, and have a great day at the track, no matter how big or small your share is.
Note: For Shares smaller than 5%, race book and race day privileges will be subject to availability.
Absolutely not. It’s your horse, any prizemoney goes straight into your bank account directly from Racing NSW
We plan to diversify our training base as much as possible. Rather than align with the one trainer, we understand all our clients have different styles of horse they are looking for, and also different budgets. Its very important that the trainers we choose are not only great trainers, but great people too. We try and make the ownership experience very inclusive, and our trainers play a huge role in that.
Yes. We will have regular open days with our trainers to view the horse and hear first hand how your horse is progressing.
If you would like to view the horse prior to purchasing your share, just contact James on 0448 881 840 or james@tricolours.com.au and we will make the appropriate arrangements.
All owners will be able to nominate a name for the horse. Those names will then be voted on by all owners on a points system that is reflective of that owner’s percentage in the horse.
Please note, Tricolours reserves the right to refuse to allow any names that could be considered inappropriate or offensive.
We have established a trust account, funded by all owners to make sure all our horses find a home after their racing career finishes. $2,500 from each horse purchased will be transferred to a trust account, and that money will be used to fund the re-homing and re-training of all of our much-loved horses. We already have over $40,000 in the trust to ensure your horse is safe and cared for in their life after racing. Not to mention, we have already made donations of over $20,000 to those charities and organisations who are doing an incredible job re-training and re-homing racehorses. For more details.
