Meet our Training Partners

  • Golden Slipper winning combination of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott have now joined the Tricolours team.

    With facilities in Sydney and Melbourne, it’s a partnership which was formed in 2016 between Gai Waterhouse – daughter of racing legend TJ Smith – and Adrian Bott, who grew up in the racing world and has a well respected name in the industry.

    Gai and Adrian are consistently amongst the top Australian trainers, in terms of strike rate (in NSW and Vic) and also money earned. Gai has trained over 130 Group 1 winners, including 7 Golden Slippers, including Farnan, trained in partnership with Adrian. She has also amassed 8 Metropolitan Handicaps, 9 Flight Stakes and a Melbourne Cup

    Tricolours has forged a strong partnership with Gai / Adrian with a highly talented team including The Playwright, The Novelist, The Wildling and Enchanted By.

  • John O’Shea numbers amongst Sydney racing’s elite trainers. After celebrating his very first Group 1 win in 2002, he went on to enjoy success at the highest level, training many, many top class gallopers.

    His growing reputation resulted in John being offered the prestigious position of Head Trainer at Godolphin in 2014. During the next three year in this role, he celebrated more than 550 winners, including 10 Group 1 victories.

    In August 2017 John returned to the public training ranks, establishing John O’Shea Racing’s stable at Randwick, where he has made it his mission to work with a great team, loyal owners and quality horses. The success of the Randwick operation led, in 2021, to the addition of a second stable located in the beautiful Glen Haven property in Hawkesbury. In 2024, Tom Charlton joined John O’Shea in a new training partnership. We have recently partnered with John O’Shea / Tom Charlton with our exciting young filly Artistic Venture.

  • Bjorn has established a reputation as one of Sydney’s leading racehorse trainers, consistently producing winning results from a relatively small team of horses. In august of 2011, Bjorn was granted a training license by Racing NSW and commenced Bjorn Baker Racing with only two boxes on-course at Warwick Farm. Fast forward to present, Bjorn is now a multiple Group 1 winning trainer with over 100 boxes at Warwick Farm.

    Bjorn has assembled a team of experts in bloodstock, veterinary science, training and communications and we are delighted to have recently joined forces with Bjorn Baker Racing for the first time with our promising Zousain filly, My Shareena.

  • Beginning in the mid-1980s, John Sargent has built an international reputation as a trainer who gets results with horses he has either selected from the auction ring or sourced through stable clients.

    After training successfully in New Zealand for many years preparing more than 200 winners, Sargent took up the challenge of relocating to Malaysia. During his stint he topped the trainers premiership and won all the major Group I races in the region. He is a master trainer of stayers, especially mares – and he trained our wonderful mare Miss Moana, before her career was cut short by injury.

    Returning to New Zealand in 2002, during the next decade the Sargent stable consolidated its position with a string of major race wins. In 2012, Sargent’s tally of 111 winners set a new record for New Zealand wins in a season.

    Now focusing his operations on Sydney’s premier horse training centre, Randwick, “Sarge” is in the ranks of Sydney’s top horse trainers.

    He trains a number of our horses, including Vetwelve, Harlow Mist and Autumn Blonde, and we are very privileged to have him as part of the Tricolours training team.

  • Richard began training in the 70’s when he trained his first winner at Canberra at age 18 years old – at the time believed to be the youngest ever professional trainer to train a winner in Australian Racing history. He then joined his brothers Lee, Anthony and Michael in the early 80’s. During their 20-year training partnership, the Freedman stable was one of Australia’s most prominent, preparing over 100 Group 1 winners. That includes five Melbourne Cups, four Golden Slippers, four Caulfield Cups and two Cox Plates. Richard then took a break from training in the early 2000’s to pursue a career in broadcast and after 15 successful years covering racing and professional sport, he returned to the training ranks in 2017 with his brother Michael where he oversaw the Rosehill Stables of Freedman Brothers.

    Richard’s son Will previously trained at Scone and joined in partnership with his father in April 2022 to form Freedman Training.

    Richard and Will have done a terrific job with our star mare Elettrica who has progressed beautifully to be one of Sydney’s most consistent performers since coming to their stables in early 2023.

  • Mitch Beer was born into racing and relished having the bug for the sport from an early age. Mitch started his professional life with thoroughbreds at the age of 16, when he worked for the powerful Lloyd Williams operation at Flemington before stepping up to become the stable foreman for astute trainer Russell Cameron, also at Flemington.

    The experience gained with the Flemington outfits served Mitch well when he moved to Mornington to become the Assistant Trainer to another talented young horseman, Jason Warren.

    He gained his trainers’ licence in November 2015 when he partnered with revered horseman Max Hinton, the pair enjoyed a great amount of success together before Mitch moved out on his own.

    In 2018 Mitch made the decision to move his operation from Mornington to Albury where he saw a gap in the market and the enormous potential there was being placed on the border.

    In 2023 after much thought and consultation Mitch Beer Racing expanded into Kembla Grange, taking the stable from a country yard to a provincial stable. The move has proved a triumph with the stables strike rate more than doubling in the first 6 months.

    Mitch trains a number of horses for Tricolours including Girls Weekend, Brazil and I Like Big Boats. We are thrilled to have Mitch Beer and his team on board.

  • Nathan Doyle is an up and coming trainer with his base facility in Newcastle with his team of 30 horses in work. Nathan's journey began in his home town of Muswellbrook before being offered a position in Sydney working for 5 years with champion trainers Paul and Peter Snowden and Mark Newnham where his spent his time soaking up invaluable knowledge. Putting together his passion, drive and knowledge from working closely with some of the world’s greatest racing names, it was time for Doyle to take on the racing industry for himself. In 2019 Doyle Racing began.

    Doyle Racing stable started in Scone NSW where he enjoyed some early success which seen the stable growing. Doyle then made the decision to set up base in Newcastle NSW where he could expand his capabilities further.

    Nathan Doyle has been a great addition to our Tricolours Racing training team, in particular with our horse Rush Attack who has really thrived since arriving at Nathan’s stables.

  • Toby Edmonds has been surrounded by horses his whole life.

    He started in his teens learning his trade from renowned horseman such as Neville Begg and Peter Snowden based in Scone.

    After previous stints at the Gold Coast and Warwick Farm he re-located permanently to his current Gold coast stables back in 2011 and each year he has increased his number of winners whilst maintaining his industry leading strike rate.

    We are very happy to partner with Toby and his team and have some very progressive horses coming through the ranks including Ready to Schipp and Fire Bomber.

  • After a triumphant career in the saddle, the time was right for Chris Munce to transition into a new role – Training Thoroughbred racehorses. Fuelled by a profound love for horses, the decision to guide them in their early days as yearlings to seasoned racehorses became Chris’s calling.

    The journey from jockey to trainer represents more than a mere change in profession, it embodies a passion for nurturing and witnessing the evolution of equine potential. From the delicate stages of a yearling’s development to the mature racehorse, the joy lies in the transformative process and the deep connection forged with these remarkable animals. The experience Chris gained from countless races and the intimate knowledge of the track now serve as invaluable assets as he embarks on this challenge.

    In this new chapter at Queensland’s premier training complex at Eagle Farm, Chris Munce once a champion jockey, now stands at the helm of Munce Racing.

    The decision to delve into training is a testament to the enduring commitment to the world of horse racing, where the love for the animal extends beyond the thrill of the ride. Its’s about inspiring prospects, celebrating achievements, and relishing the bond formed between trainer and horse as they embark on a shared journey towards victory and success. In 2024 Chris Munce took his son Corey on board as a training partner, as the stable looks to continue building the strong momentum it has gathered in recent seasons. Chris and Corey will be training one of our recent Magic Millions purchases - an outstanding Pierata colt.

  • Group 1 winning trainer, Kerry Parker who operates out f Kembla is a hands on trainer with a genuine and contagious passion for his sport. Drawing on three decades of experience as a strapper, jockey and trainer, Kerry is an authentic ‘horseman’, giving him invaluable insight into the fitness and ability of each of his charges.

    Kerry reached the pinnacle in all trainer’s careers, being Group 1 success, when Dark Dream won the Group 1 Queensland Derby in June 2018. Kerry was able to build on his success in 2021 after Think it Over secured a win in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes over 1500 metres at Rosehill Gardens. In April 2022, Kerry secured his biggest win yet! Think It Over won his second Group 1 being the Queen Elizabeth Stakes race over 2000 metres at Royal Randwick.
