Our Horses. Our Responsibility.

Tricolours Racing Horse Welfare Trust – because their future matters.

We’re Serious About Horse Welfare

While we are confident that horse welfare is high on the agenda for all in Racing, and our administrators are doing all they can, more needs to be done. Lots more.

As owners, we must be accountable. Horse welfare is our responsibility, including after a horse’s race career finishes.

At Tricolours Racing, the welfare of our horses isn’t an afterthought – it’s our first priority. Every horse deserves a safe and secure life beyond the racetrack, and we’ve taken real action to ensure that happens. Our promise to you as owners, is that your horse will be looked when they retire form racing under our management.

Since 2020, every Tricolours horse comes with a $2,500 welfare levy—directly invested into a dedicated, audited trust account to fund re-homing and re-training efforts. This means when you purchase a share in a Tricolours horse, the price will $62.50 more expensive for each 2.5% share than it normally would be. If you aren’t wanting to part with the extra $62.50 then with all due respect, you are not welcome as a Tricolours owner.

What Makes Our Welfare Trust Different

  • Accountability From Day One

Every horse purchased includes a $2,500 contribution to the trust—built into the share price and outlined in the PDS. It’s not optional. It’s our commitment.

  • A Fully Audited Trust

Funds are held in a separate trust account, audited annually, and transparently reported to owners. Every cent goes to post-race care.

  • Beyond Our Own Horses

If funds remain unused, they’re redirected to support other retired racehorses through registered re-homing charities. We support the industry-wide effort.

“One of the main reasons I have all my horses with Tricolours, apart from the service, is the equine trust fund they use to re-home the horses after they finish their race careers – they really care and look after their horses.”

Bruce R,
Tricolours Owner

“A key part of why we stay with Tricolours is their ongoing commitment to each horse’s welfare through re-homing and post-race education. All the horses are treated with the utmost of care and their welfare is paramount.”
