Beginning in the mid-1980s, John Sargent has built an international reputation as a trainer who gets results — whether with horses he's selected himself from the auction ring or sourced through stable clients. He trains a number of Tricolours horses, including Vetwelve & Harlow Mist.
About John Sargent
After training successfully in New Zealand for many years and preparing more than 200 winners, Sargent took on the challenge of relocating to Malaysia in 1998. During his time there he topped the trainers' premiership and won all of the region's major Group 1 races.
Returning to New Zealand in 2002, the Sargent stable consolidated its position over the following decade with a string of major race wins. In 2012, his tally of 111 winners set a new record for New Zealand wins in a season — a record that still stands for stake-earnings over the same period. That same year, he claimed his first Group 1 success in Australia with Quintessential in the Queensland Oaks, becoming the first New Zealand trainer to win premierships in two jurisdictions.
Now based at Randwick — Sydney's premier horse training centre — "Sarge" ranks among Sydney's top horse trainers, with further Group 1 success including the Australian Oaks with Gust of Wind and three Wakeful Stakes wins, most recently with filly Luvaluva. He is regarded as a master trainer of stayers, particularly mares.

How Syndication Works
Buying into a racehorse syndicate with Tricolours is simple — On average, a 2.5% share in a horse costs approximately $125 per month in training costs, plus a management fee of $40/month. When the horse is in full work costs are slightly higher; when spelling they're lower. Over a year they average out. Every horse's costs are clearly stated in its PDS.
