Racehorse Syndication with Michael Freedman

Michael Freedman

A trainer with a racing pedigree few in Australia can match. Part of the famous Freedman training dynasty, Michael has trained across three countries — Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong — before returning home to establish his own stable at Randwick, one of the country's premier training facilities.

About Michael Freedman

Michael Freedman commenced his training career in 1988, joining his three older brothers — Australian Racing Hall of Famer Lee, Anthony and Richard — in their Melbourne training business. Over their 20-year partnership, the Freedman stable became one of Australia's most prominent, preparing over 100 Group 1 winners, including the Melbourne Cup on five occasions and four consecutive Golden Slipper wins.

In 2008, Michael branched out on his own, taking a licence to train in Singapore, where he won 468 races at a 15% strike rate — his stable's best galloper during that period was two-time Singapore Horse of the Year, Super Easy. After a brief stint training in Hong Kong, Michael returned to Australia, where his stable included Golden Slipper runner-up Frolic.

In 2019, Michael teamed up again with his brother Richard under the banner of Freedman Brothers, based at Randwick, overseeing the training of Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside, three-time Group 1 winner Forbidden Love, and Group and feature race winners Tiger Of Malay, Glistening, Queen Of The Ball and Prime Star.

Michael now trains independently from Randwick, with direct access to the Australian Turf Club's elite training facilities — multiple training tracks and surfaces, a swimming pool, treadmill and regular barrier education — training a stable of over 50 horses within an hour's drive of every Sydney metropolitan racecourse.

How Syndication Works

Buying into a racehorse syndicate with Tricolours is simple — On average, a 2.5% share in a horse costs approximately $125 per month in training costs, plus a management fee of $40/month. When the horse is in full work costs are slightly higher; when spelling they're lower. Over a year they average out. Every horse's costs are clearly stated in its PDS. We handle billing, updates and race-day logistics so you can focus on the experience.
