Racehorse Syndication with

Richard & Will Freedman

Richard & Will Freedman

Richard Freedman began training in the 1970s, when he trained his first winner at Canberra at just 18 years old —

at the time believed to be the youngest ever professional trainer to train a winner in Australian racing history.

Today, he trains in partnership with his son Will as Freedman Training.

About Richard & Will Freedman

In the early 1980s, Richard joined his brothers Lee, Anthony and Michael to form the Freedman Brothers training

partnership. Over 20 years, the Freedman stable became one of Australia’s most prominent, preparing over 100

Group 1 winners — including five Melbourne Cups, four Golden Slippers, four Caulfield Cups and two Cox Plates.

Richard took a break from training in the early 2000s to pursue a career in broadcast, covering racing and

professional sport for 15 years. He returned to the training ranks in 2017 with his brother Michael, overseeing the

Rosehill stables of Freedman Brothers.

Richard’s son Will previously trained at Scone, having spent time on the Godolphin Flying Start program to gain a

global grounding in horse racing at some of the sport’s top operations. Will joined his father in partnership in April

2022 to form Freedman Training.
